Variety Summary

This is the most dramatic doubled die of the series, and commands the most interest and demand. This variety can easily be seen with the naked eye. It is the key to the series and is hard to find in high grade.

Additional Notes

Obverse

Class V, Pivot Hub Doubling CW.
Doubling shows as a extremely strong CCW spread on LIBERTY, initial L, eye, nose, mouth, the profile and many of the feathers. Doubling also shows on the first S and and also the ES of STATES. The pivot is about 5 o'clock.

Small die crack through the base of the date from the rim.

Reverse

Paired with two non-variety, Type 3 'Bold N' reverses.

The most spectacular DDO for the whole series, although I put the underrated 1887 DDO-001 in a close second. Excellent pictures–details like the doubling of the lips and nose tip aren’t always visible in diagnostic photos.
