Variety Summary

1870 is a great year to find many different doubled dies. There was a hub change to the reverse in 1870 (Type I and Type II), and there are many Class III reverses which show a combination of both hub types. This doubled die reverse is very similar to DDR-001, but these varieties are easily distinguishable by exaiming the degree and location of the doubling.

Additional Notes

Obverse

Die clashing seen in front of eyes.

Reverse

Class V, Pivot Hub Doubling.
Doubling shows as a strong CW spread on the left side denticles, ONE CENT, veins and leaves on the left side of the wreath, the shield, and upper right side of the wrath.

Die crack through the ribbon, arrow tips, and left side wreath to the rim at 3 o'clock.
