Variety Summary

This variety was first believed to be a 1865/4. It was then thought to be a Plain 5 over a Fancy 5 date punch. This variety has been correctly identied as a just a Plain 5 over Plain 5 repunched date.

Repunched Date: 1865/1865
Repunched 1 south seen below the serif. Repunched 8 south seen below the top and middle. Repunched 6 north seen above the top. Repunched 5 north seen above the base and top.

The outline of a C of CENTS can be seen protruding from the forehead. Die crack through TE to the rim. Bumps between the I and C of AMERICA.
