Variety Summary

A true rarity, this repunched date is a dramatic way to begin the Indian Head Series. This is one of the most important varieties for the entire run. Finding one of these will provide everlasting satisfaction.

Repunched Date: 1859/1859
Repunched 1 south seen below the serif. Repunched 8 south seen in the middle of the upper loop and to the left of the middle. Repunched 5 southwest seen below the top and to the left of the 5. Repunched 9 southwest seen in middle of the upper loop, the top of the lower loop, and to the left of the upper loop of the 9.

Open top of R in AMERICA. In later die states, rim cud from 10:00 to 12:00 and flow lines can weaken the appearance of the date.

Reverse

Die crack from the rim at 3 o'clock to the wreath.
